The Seems of Life

Scripture:  1 Peter 5:7

Good Morning.  I want to talk to you about the “seems of life” — not the “s-e-a-ms” or the “sc-ene-s” of life, but the “s-e-e-m-s” of life.  Life has many twists and turns and it sometimes “seems” that you can't make it through.  It seems as if all your dreams are turned upside down.  It seems like everything and everyone is against you.  It seems like the devil has a foothold on your future and you’re going nowhere fast.

That is how it seems.  Someti

“Don’t Compromise Yourself”

Scripture - Romans 7:15-25

“I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it.  Instead, I do what I hate.”

We all do it!  We make compromises to diffuse conflict, and that’s a good thing. But here’s something else that we do — we compromise on something we wanted now so we can get what we really wanted later. Okay, so these examples may not be getting exactly to the point.

What about compromising such that we sin

Scripture: Matthew 27: 50-54

During this time of pandemic and this season of isolation and limited human contact, we have been introduced to words and phrases that were not routinely heard or used in everyday language. For instance, “COVID- 19” or “coronavirus”- a potentially fatal virus we had no prior knowledge of before late 2019, “social distancing” which we now understand as being at least 6 feet away from another person, “pandemic”- a disease prevalent throughout an e

Scripture: Psalm 27:9-10; 14 NLT

When our youngest daughter was an adolescent- a time when she was not such a “little girl” yet not quite a teenager she had a saying. Whenever she realized or thought she was home alone she would call me and say “I’m all alone and unprotected.” My instincts as her mom would be to feel sad that she felt as though no one was with her and should any danger be lurking, she had no protection. Often, I wanted to run back to make sure she knew that

Testing, Testing, Testing

Scriptures:  James 1:2-4, 12 ESV

Remember when the word “testing” didn’t have anything to do with Coronavirus testing?  In fact, when the word testing was used, many times what often came to mind was someone standing at a microphone saying “testing, testing, testing, 1,2, 3.”   This was simply a test of microphones and the amplifying equipment to ensure that they would work properly and would stand up and hold out when being used, under a trial run, a soundcheck, or when ab

Where Are the Fireworks?

by: Rev. Dr. V. Keith Brown

This being the 4th of July, we reflect on a great nation and the celebration of its independence.  But I submit to you today that there are other fireworks to celebrate today.

Jeremiah 20:9 (NIV) says — But if I say, I will not mention his word or speak any more in his name, his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones.  I am weary of holding it in.  Indeed I cannot.

The Message Bible says it this way “the words are fire in my belly, a burning in my bones.
